Flooded Rumchalpa quarry
Welcome to the Rumchalpa diving center, one of the most beautiful diving locations in the Czech Republic. Rumchalpa is a former quarry and has been used for recreational and technical diving since 1979.
The complex is suitable not only for diving training but also for non-divers looking for a quiet location with swimming opportunities near the Krkonoše Mountains and Bohemian Paradise.
All operations at the diving base are governed by the Visitor Rules!
The entire area is excluded from the fishing grounds. There is a wide range of aquatic animals, including pike, carp, perch, crayfish, new albino catfish, and many others. All fishing is prohibited here. The maximum depth is 18 meters, and visibility varies from 1 to 8 meters.
A bit of history: The name itself is derived from two words – rum and chalpa. Rum is an old term for rubbish or debris left behind after charcoal burning or stone quarrying. The word chalpa is an East Bohemian term for a cottage (chalupa).
The name Rumchalpa first appeared in the 16th century, when the building was constructed. Charcoal was probably burned here in the 17th century. It is not known whether the quarry was already in operation at that time, but it was probably put into operation sometime around then. It was in operation until the early 20th century, when building stone was mined here.
